BTC Nordic

Three years ago, the BASF Group gathered its widespread network of European subsidiaries which distribute special chemicals to local markets in Europe. The numerous companies were reorganized into eight regions where the Region Nordic/Baltic states have their head office in Copenhagen. Together, the eight companies constitute BTC (BASF Trading Centre) Speciality Chemical Distribution.

We now have more clout
“The new organisation has clearly given us more clout in the BASF Group. Solutions have been developed centrally so we can exchange data with BASF. For example, we can now provide BASF with feedback from the market through a central data warehouse, just as we now have EDI exchange with the Group.

We would hardly have had the clout needed to develop these solutions given our size when we were a purely Danish company”, says Finance Manager, Thomas Carlsen, BTC Nordic.

Common core solution
All BTC regions run on Microsoft Business Solutions–Navision. A core version has been made, which the regions have been able to adapt locally.

“With eight regional companies it makes good sense for the BTC Group to develop common solutions in relation to the parent company, BASF. This means that all regions have the same fundamental structure. Here at BTC Nordic we utilize Navision's options of several language layers which, among other things, is an advantage for our colleagues in Finland and the Baltic states”, says Thomas Carlsen.

The chemistry is in order
Thomas Carlsen is also positive about the cooperation with Columbus: “I have many years experience with Navision and based on that, I can confirm that Columbus' staff are highly competent. We have a good dialogue, where I sense that Columbus also acknowledges that we have considerable expertise ourselves – and we utilize that, interacting well together.”

With a little jargon from a chemical distribution company, Thomas Carlsen concludes that the chemistry and delivery are in order:

“To a certain degree things still depend on good chemistry between the partners – on that point Columbus has at no time disappointed me. They are skilled, competent people who have always had the ability to understand our problems and complex structure. They simply deliver a good job!”
