Trevira Neckelmann is a textile company with international scope, with production facilities in Silkeborg, Denmark, and the headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, plus divisions in Belgium and Brazil. The company texturizes polyester filament yarns under the trademark Trevira. The yarns are sold to major weaving and knitting mills, which then process the yarns into finished fabrics. More than 90% of the production is exported, mainly to the European automotive industry. Exports to countries outside Europe are increasing steadily.

 

Trevira Neckelmann yarns have a great number of end uses in the following industry sectors:

  • Automotive Sector: Upholstery, head-liners and door panels for new cars.
  • Institutional and Home Textiles: Upholstery fabrics and curtains, including a speciality product, Trevira CS-yarns, which have unique flame retardant qualities.
  • Clothing Sector: Outer garments, especially sports wear and leisurewear.
  • Technical End Uses: Textile strengthening, safety fillings, silencing materials, etc.

More than 500 persons are employed in the 46,500 m² area of buildings in Silkeborg. Trevira Neckelmann's sales are based on close development with the product developers and designers of their customers, so the staff of experienced technicians coordinate with those customers, giving advice and technical solutions regarding knitting and weaving of the various yarn types.

Situation
In 1997, Trevira Neckelmann started using SAP, as dictated by the German headquarters, to handle their Financial and Purchasing processes (purchasing of the raw materials, etc., for production). After one year of trying to work with this system, however, they had to give up because that software did not have the functionality they need.

 

With Trevira's complex production and strong development-oriented product approach, they

need the flexibility and scalability to constantly gather new customer requirements and specifications for their ongoing product development.

 

Business Solution Choice
Trevira Neckelmann in Denmark went through a major Business Process Reengineering and determined that they wanted to have both standard and customized approaches to their production, with strong MRP (Materials Resource Planning) functionality. They evaluated Intentia's Movex, a product called B-PEX (similar to SAP), and Navision Axapta.
